Sedano's New Store

Hialeah, Fla.-based Sedano’s Supermarkets has opened a new flagship store--the grocer’s 31st location--in the Westchester area of Miami. To celebrate the Dec. 2 opening, Sedano’s is offering shoppers exclusive specials and will host a variety of store events through Dec. 13, including a 32-person domino tournament sponsored by Budweiser, in-store cooking demonstrations by IMUSA, a Miami Heat Xtreme team appearance, paellas, live music entertainment and in-store samplings.

Self-service solutions are here and are becoming more prevalent. Supermarkets are now finding the proper mix of service between self-service and associate service. No doubt, some supermarkets will be more cautious in the deployment of self-service technology, while other  supermarkets will deploy rapidly. Some grocery retailers may minimize their self-service offerings, while others may elect to maximize the technologies—perhaps including a checkout environment that is 100 percent self-service.
